Presented a conference on
The New Software Industry: Forces at Play, Business in Motion
April 30, 2007.
Globalization, outsourcing, and advances in technology continue to rock the software industry in ways that will alter how everyone does business. So much is changing that we thought it would help to get a slice-in-time picture, viewed from many angles at once. This conference, a.k.a. Sofcon 2007, brought together industry specialists and academics to explore the background, current status and future of the industry.
The goal was to capture a holographic view — which might show how the moving pieces connect — rather than focus on a single aspect like Web 2.0, SaaS or open source. And what we learned?
There isn’t any Next Big Thing in the software industry.

Sofcon 2007 drew an all-star lineup of speakers from nearly every “position” — entrepreneurs and big-firm veterans, VCs and investors, consultants and academics. Microsoft graciously provided the auditorium at its Silicon Valley campus. Get the highlights (or the whole thing) now:
