Visitor Information and Directions
Carnegie Mellon West is located in Silicon Valley on the grounds of Moffett Field in Mountain View, CA, where NASA engages in some of its most exciting research. Because of our unique location, you will need a valid form of government-issued ID (such as a driver's license) to gain access to our campus.

Local Directions:
Coming from San Francisco:
Via 101S: Take 101 South to Mountain View and exit at Moffett Field. Take a right at the end of the freeway off-ramp. Proceed ¼ mile to the guard gate.
Via 280S: Take 280 South to 85 North to the Moffett Blvd exit. Take a right at the light located at the end of the freeway ramp. Proceed ¾ mile to the guard gate.
Coming from San Jose:
Via 101N: Take 101 North to the Moffett Field exit. Take a right at the end of the freeway off-ramp. Proceed ¼ mile to the guard gate.
Via 280N: Take 280 North to 85 North to Moffett Blvd exit. Take a right at the light at the end of the freeway ramp. Proceed ¾ mile to the guard gate.
Via 85N: Take 85 North to Moffett Blvd. Take a right at the light at the end of the freeway ramp. Proceed ¾ mile to the guard gate.
Coming from East Bay:
Take the CA-84 West exit towards the Dunbarton Bridge. Take a left on CA-114. Bear right to take US-101 South toward San Jose. Take the Moffett Field exit. Take a right at the end of the freeway off-ramp. Proceed 1/4 mile to the guard gate.
Mass Transit Options:
Bus: VTA lines 51 or 35
Caltrain: Mountain View station
BART: Millbrae station and transfer to Caltrain
LightRail: Stop by Moffett Field South Gate (note south gate not open on weekends)
Security Gate:
You will pass through a security gate to reach the campus. A valid driver's license, state id, or federal id is required. When presenting your id, also let them know you are going to Carnegie Mellon.
After Passing Through the Security Gate:
Once you proceed through security gate, move into the right lane before you approach the "Y" in the road (about 200 yards from the security gate). Continue in the right lane as the road bends right a chapel will be on your right. Carnegie Mellon's Building 23 is directly to your left. Make an immediate left into the Building 23 parking lot. You are now in the back of Building 23. Follow the signs/lights to the main entrance in the front of the building.
Handicap access is available via the elevator at the front of the building or by ramp at the back of the building.
Airport Directions
- From San Jose International Airport: Follow signs to 87 North, then to 101 North. Once on 101 North, follow the directions above (see "Coming from San Jose via 101N).
- From Oakland Airport: Take 880 South to 237 South to 101 North. Once on 101 North, follow the directions above (see "Coming from San Jose via 101N).
- From San Francisco Airport: Take 101 South toward San Jose. Once on 101 South, follow the directions above (see "Coming from San Francisco via 101S).

Excellent chain that has a couple of others in the area should that one be full excellent boutique hotel that does not feel like a corporate hotel
Hotel Sofitel, Redwood Shores, CA (halfway between campus and SFO airport - 35 mins from campus)
French hotel chain used by many business travelers
Westin Santa Clara, CA (10-15min from campus and 15min. From SJC airport)
Typical, large, clean corporate hotel
Fairmont, San Jose, CA (about 15min from campus and 5min. From SJC airport)
If you want to say in downtown San Jose the best corporate hotel in the central business district of San Jose very close to SJC
Hotel Valencia, San Jose, CA (15min from campus and 10min. From SJC airport)
Nice boutique hotel located in the most socially active (restaurants, shops, etc.) area.
